The Switzerland Report - Day 10

|| Aug 6 ||

Findings: 17km Tunnel

Food: The sandwich...again

We had to leave the sweet, noir Hotel Mimosas today, but not before taking more photos. I wanted the cornichon sandwich for the road so Chris and Johanna hit the beach one last time while I walked up to the
Marché Provençal for more of those sandwiches.

Johanna was insistent we avoid the mountain passes on the return trip so we took the straighter route home through the Gottardo Tunnel. Oddly, the only traffic we hit on our entire drive to and from the Riviera was in Switzerland and at the tunnel and it was BAD. Long before we could see the tunnel we were parked, literally, on the freeway for a total of 2 hours. There is a metering light to keep traffic moving in the tunnel which makes sense. What doesn't make sense is two lanes for all traffic north-south in Europe.

Swings are everywhere in Switzerland, inside and outside. When we arrived back in Lucerne, Johanna ran off with Jeanne, Ilia, and Alek. Emma and Kaleo made another delicious dinner of fennel, salad, lentils and beef. I once again was unpacking. We were staying the night in Karin's house which is across the street from Emma and Kaleo's apartment. Everyone was excited to be back together again and Emma was forced to sing the soundtracks to both Grease and the Sound of Music before the girls nodded off.
